The Assam ——— Largest Tea producer in India.
Tea is the most popular hot beverage in India, Consumed and made both at home and outside. India is the Second largest producer and exporter of tea in the world whereas Assam produces the largest volume of tea in India.
2. The World’s largest river island Majuli on the Brahmaputra.
Majuli is recognized as the largest river island in the world. It is located on the Brahmaputra River near Jorhat. In 2016 it becomes the first island to be made a district in India. It had an area of 880 squre kilometers at the beginning of the 20th century but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 squre kilometers as at 2014.
3. The Umananda, World’s smallest inhabited river island.
The Umananda island is the smallest river island in the middle of river Brahmaputra, flowing through the city of Guwahati. The British named the island Peacock island for its structure.
4. World’s Biggest Weaving village “Sualkuchi”
Sualkuchi is a village in Kamrup district in this beautiful Indian state. It is situated on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra, about 35 Km from Guwahati. Sualkuchi is also known as “Manchester of Assam” because of its huge textile industries.
5. Bhupen Hazarika Setu ——— India’s longest river bridge.
The Bhupen Hazarika Setu, which is also known as Dhola Sadiya Bridge, is the longest bridge in India over water till now. Its length is 9.15 kilometers. The bridge was inaugurated on 26 May, 2017 by prime minister Narendra Modi.
6. Asia’s oldest refinery ——– Digboi.
Digboi is known as the oil city of Assam where the first oil well in Asia was drilled. The first refinery was started here as early as 1901.
