Assam  is a vibrant and culturally rich state located in the northeastern region of India. Known for its lush green landscapes, sprawling tea gardens, diverse wildlife, and unique cultural heritage, Assam holds a special place in the heart of India. It is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Northeast” due to its strategic location and cultural significance. 

         Assam is nestled in the lap of the eastern Himalayas and is crisscrossed by the majestic Brahmaputra River.           Majuli is recognized as the largest river island in the world. It is located on the Brahmaputra River near Jorhat. In 2016 it becomes the first island to be made a district in India. It had an area of 880 squre kilometers at the beginning of the 20th century but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 352 squre kilometers as at 2014.

              The Bhupen Hazarika Setu, which is also known as Dhola Sadiya Bridge, is the longest bridge in India over water till now. Its length is 9.15 kilometers. The bridge was inaugurated on 26 May, 2017 by prime minister Narendra Modi.

6. Asia’s oldest refinery ——– Digboi.
